Peers Building Justice, a collaboration between MESA and SPAN had their youth retreat in November.
We took a group of high school Campus Organizers up to the YMCA of the Rockies’ Snow Mountain Ranch for an overnight stay. At the cabin, the Campus Organizers created collages in response to rape culture, the objectification of women, and unhealthy messages about relationships in popular media. The youth also had an intensive planning session where they laid the route for sharing their expertise and critical perspective with their peers and the community.
Their big plans include a photo campaign promoting self-love in which the Campus Organizers take photos of community participants who have completed the sentence “I love myself because…” on a whiteboard.
