Men Standing Up

While most men are against sexual violence, the lack of male engagement in ending sexual assault reflects the need for education and mobilization that specifically caters to men. MESA’s Men Standing Up (MSU) Program frames sexual violence prevention as a men’s issue. Through events, workshops, and trainings, MSU informs, enlists, and empowers men in our community to become agents in the movement to end sexual assault.

MSU volunteers undergo thorough training on the many dimensions of sexual violence and gender justice, particularly as they relate to masculinity. Following this training, MSU volunteers assists with MESA events, participate in community advocacy, and facilitate MSU workshops.

MSU workshop topics include: Hegemonic Masculinity and Sexual Violence; Men, Bystander Intervention, and Preventing Sexual Assault; Healthy Masculinity; and Raising Boys Into Post-Patriarchal Men.
